Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, two-time Academy and three-time Emmy Award-winning director, has just released the trailer and poster of her latest animation film, SITARA: LET GIRLS DREAM.
On 23rd September 2019, The film opened in theaters in New York in hopes to start a global conversation in encouraging parents and families to invest in their daughters dreams. Sitara sets down the life of a young 14-year old girl, Pari. Her dream of being a pilot is crushed when she is forced into child marriage.
The film takes viewers on a journey through the old city of Lahore. It showcase the culture of force child marriage which still prevails in the society. Apart from the direction, Sharmeen also has penned down the story of the film. This a silent film with no dialogues.
Talking to leading daily Images Dawn, Sharmeen stated that for her it is not a film only but a moment. It encourages parents to invest in their girls dreams. She said:
Sitara is more than a film, it is a movement that we want to start across the world, that encourages parents to invest in their girls’ dreams, encouraging them to free their girls from the burdens of early marriage.
