The veteran writer Khalil ur Rehman Qamar who is known for his quality writing work like ‘Parey Afzal’ and ‘Sadqay Tumhare’ has found himself in the eyes of social media storm and backlash. As recently the writer appeared on web show and during interview he went on to defend his ideas and philosophy around how he sees society. Further he opened up about his views and thoughts on gender equality and what he thinks about a ‘Good Woman’ is. The writer also talked about how he considers those women as pious who are loyal to their husbands or else they are not women. He kept on sharing his misogynistic views and said women should rape men if they want equality.
Talking about how “some feminist group” asked him about equality. As a response, he asked them if they “ever read news like ‘five men kidnap a woman’?” “They said yes. So I said have you ever read ‘five women kidnap a man’? No, then do it… If you want equality, then do that. Only then will I know women are being equal. “Loot a bus, abduct a man, gang-rape him, so I get to know what equality is. What kind of equality are you demanding? I’m troubled,” he said.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar who also made his directorial debut with Kaaf Kangana talked about his famous written drama serial ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’ and stated, “It is a story of several men, not just one. I have come across multiple married couples who go through the same ordeal. I’ve observed when a married woman cheats, she doesn’t feel ashamed at all. The reason behind her not feeling guilty is because she has been backed by another man. When an unmarried woman cheats, she feels guilty.” He continued to say, “that was the concept behind Mere Pass Tum Ho and so I’m fighting for the ‘good women’. It would be unfair to these ‘good’ women to be classified along with those who aren’t loyal”.
Adding further he stated that he is a feminist to the core. “Trust me, you’ll not find a bigger feminist in Pakistan, but I fight for good women only. Loyalty is a woman’s virtue; don’t challenge it”. Many celebrities including Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Gul Pir, Armeena Rana Khan, Jami came out and shared their opinion on his views.
“Ummmm and how many actors, actresses, pro/dir and channels will put their foot down in response to these views and send a message of resistence here?” Questioned Meesha Shafi.
