Kashmir Solidarity Day is a national holiday in Pakistan. Pakistan and also Kashmiri observed the day collectively across the globe on 5 February each year. It is in observance of Pakistan’s support of and unity with the people of Indian-administered Kashmir, the separatists’ efforts to secede from India, and to pay homage to the Kashmiris who have died in the conflict.
Kashmir Solidarity Day was first proposed by Qazi Hussain Ahmad of the Jamaat-e-Islami party in Pakistan in 1990. It is considered as the largest activity against the Indian suppression in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir. On this day, people of Pakistan and Kashmir, wherever they are living in the world especially in the United Kingdom as people of Mirpur, Kashmir lives there in sufficient numbers. The day starts with special prayers in Masjid for the freedom of Kashmir, organize large scale rallies, seminars and debate competitions.
