The holy month of Ramadan is upon us. Muslims spent the month of Ramadan by fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. As it is the 5th Pillar of Islam to Fast during Ramadan month. We have to fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. So it is most important to add healthy foods high in water that can help prevent dehydration. As we know to drink at least eight to ten glasses of waters after iftar is hard. To prevent dehydration, we try to drink as much water as possible in sehri. However, it always seems to be in vain and we end up feeling nothing but bloated and nauseous. There are some foods more hydrating than others. Here are 7 foods you should/might eat to avoid dehydration.

Watermelon

The pink fruit is consisting of almost 90 per cent water that will not only hydrate your body. But it will also clear your skin of any acne, provide a natural luster to the skin and slow down the ageing process. It is very low in calories. The water-rich food can help you stay hydrated, improve heart health and reduce inflammation. You can have it as it is or in the form of a juice.

Yogurt

Yogurt is about 88% water and contains ample protein and calcium. That’s why our elders have been telling us since forever to have yogurt and lassi more often than we do. As per Healthline, plain yogurt with no flavorings is the most hydrating and also is significantly lower in sugar. Try to eat it directly or you can take it in the form of lassi or raita. But the more beneficial way to eat is, by adding strawberry or cherry. It will not only keep you hydrated throughout the day but will also provide you with energy to go through the fast.

Cucumber

At 95% water, cucumbers are a great way to get hydration. If we say Cucumber is one of the highest foods to have to avoid dehydration. In addition to their high water content, they also contain many vitamins, fiber and minerals which also helps to get a fair and clean skin. You should try to add in your sehri meal as it is loaded with minerals like magnesium and calcium as well as vitamins A and C which will help you stay cool by keeping the blood pressure low. Beside from promoting hydration, it also can help with weight loss.

The leafy green vegetable, Spinach is made up of 91% water and is considered extremely healthy, as it contains important plant compounds which can benefit our health. Not only it is high in hydration. But eating spinach may benefit eye health, reduce oxidative stress and reduce blood pressure levels. Putting spinach into fruit juices or salad or chaat is an easy way to eat to consume this healthy, beneficial and leafy green. Even you can eat it raw.
